AFFORDABLE HOUSING

For many Floridians, home ownership is the key to the American Dream.  Skyrocketing home values, however, have put this dream out of reach for too many first-time homebuyers, seniors and working families.  This session, as Democratic House Leader, I worked on bipartisan proposals to expand funding for affordable housing projects and require local governments to develop affordable housing options for essential workforce personnel, such as teachers, firefighters and police officers.  Some other proposals I supported include:

• Uncapping the Documentary Stamps Trust Fund so that state and local Affordable Housing projects in Florida have more resources. 

• Increasing partnerships with local governments (counties and cities) to design affordable housing partnerships and incentives that are reflective of each community's needs.

• Working with local governments to expand affordable housing and workforce housing to ensure that teachers, police officers, firefighters, nurses and more have access to affordable housing.
